Secular Trends in Global Tides Derived From Satellite Radar Altimetry

چکیده

Previous studies have demonstrated that tides are subject to considerable changes on secular time scales. However, these rely sea level observations from tide gauges predominantly located in coastal and shelf regions therefore, the large-scale patterns remain uncertain. Now, for first time, satellite radar altimetry (TOPEX/Poseidon & Jason series) has been used study worldwide linear trends tidal harmonic constants of four major (M2, S2, O1, K1). This demonstrates both potential challenges using data quantification such long-term changes. Two alternative methods were implemented. In method, estimated consecutive 4-year periods, which change was then estimated. second estimation integrated analysis. First, assessed by application gauge sub-sampled sampling scheme satellites. Thereafter applied real data. Results show statistically significant decreases increases amplitude up 1 mm/year phase ∼0.1 deg/year. The agreement between altimeter-derived estimates differs per region tide.

Global Inland Water Monitoring from Satellite Radar Altimetry – a Glimpse into the Future

The capability of satellite radar altimeters to monitor the height changes of major lakes is well established. However, river systems present far more challenging targets. By retracking altimeter echoes using an expert system approach, river heights can be successfully monitored; this capability is bounded by the along-track sampling rate. However, a glimpse into the potential of future altimet...

Gravity acceleration at the sea surface derived from satellite altimetry data using harmonic splines

Gravity acceleration data have grand pursuit for marine applications. Due to environmental effects, marine gravity observations always hold a high noise level. In this paper, we propose an approach to produce marine gravity data using satellite altimetry, high-resolution geopotential models and harmonic splines. On the one hand, harmonic spline functions have great capability for local gravity ...

A daily global mesoscale ocean eddy dataset from satellite altimetry

Mesoscale ocean eddies are ubiquitous coherent rotating structures of water with radial scales on the order of 100 kilometers. Eddies play a key role in the transport and mixing of momentum and tracers across the World Ocean. We present a global daily mesoscale ocean eddy dataset that contains ~45 million mesoscale features and 3.3 million eddy trajectories that persist at least two days as ide...

Sensitivity Analysis of Brown Model Waveform in Radar Altimetry

In satellite altimetry (radar altimetry), the altimeter emits a pulse, with known power, to the earth surface and receives it back continuously to determine of the sea surface height. The time series of the mean returned power is recorded individually at satellite as the so-called waveform. Analytical model for the waveform is first introduced by Brown, which consists of six parameters: signif...

Arctic sea surface height variability and change from satellite radar altimetry and GRACE, 20032014

Arctic sea surface height (SSH) is poorly observed by radar altimeters due to the poor coverage of the polar oceans provided by conventional altimeter missions and because large areas are perpetually covered by sea ice, requiring specialized data processing. We utilize SSH estimates from both the icecovered and ice-free ocean to present monthly estimates of Arctic Dynamic Ocean Topography (DOT)...
